In an interesting revelation for Final Fantasy VII fans, dataminer and keen fan have uncovered a discarded game element that Square originally planned for the iconic title. The discovery revolves around a puzzle or minigame involving a crane and a steel beam, now brought back to life in the Remake.
A scene in the Remake features Cloud and Aerith using a crane with a robot arm and a steel beam as a makeshift bridge. This puzzle was absent in the original game. Twitter user @TheStrifeisRife, the main editor for the Shinra Archaeology Department, unearthed Square's original intention for this location—a puzzle with the crane and a wire.
TheStrifeisRife delved into the game's assets using the Makou Reactor program, revealing a 3D model for a wire and the potential use of the steel beam as a 3D object. The puzzle involved lifting and dropping the wire to create a pathway, a feature that was eventually cut, possibly due to concerns about player frustration.
