Stanislav Vishnevskiy, co-founder and CTO of Discord, shared insights during an interview at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 about Discord’s connection to Final Fantasy. Vishnevskiy explained that the idea for Discord came from his experience playing Final Fantasy XI. He wanted a way to chat with friends while playing multiplayer games like FFXI, which led him to create an early version of what eventually became the platform millions of users rely on today.
"When I was a student, I was obsessed with Final Fantasy 11, and I made something like a prototype of Discord as software that could be used while playing the game. From there, I moved to California and joined a company called GREE, where I met co-founder Jason Citron. I thought it would be nice to make the communication tool we created available to even more people, so I started developing Discord in earnest."
Vishnevskiy also talked about ongoing collaborations with Final Fantasy XIV. A new collaboration between FFXIV and Discord is in the works, and he encouraged fans to "look forward to it." This partnership is aimed at improving communication for players, with plans to integrate future quests into Discord for FFXIV.
