Ever Crisis - Gameplay Details From A Famitsu Interview With Tetsuya Nomura and Shōichi Ichikawa

The upcoming FFVII game, Ever Crisis, recently had its gameplay features unveiled in an insightful interview conducted by Famitsu with the game’s creative director, Tetsuya Nomura, and producer Shōichi Ichikawa.

Ever Crisis is a mobile game inspired by the compilation of Final Fantasy VII, bringing a blend of chibi-style characters and realistic models to the gaming world. Just like FFVII, the game features chibi characters on the field and more detailed models during battles and CG movies.

Players have the option to tap specific points on the field map or use the directional stick input for seamless navigation. The game retains the original maps from Final Fantasy VII but updates them with enhanced visuals, providing a fresh and exciting experience for players as they explore familiar locations.

Interacting with the environment is made effortless through a dedicated action button on the screen. With a simple press, players can climb ladders, open treasure chests, and perform various other actions, adding an extra layer of immersion to the gameplay.

Fans of the original Final Fantasy VII will be delighted to find that the storyline and event choreography in Ever Crisis stay faithful to the game. Memorable scenes are recreated with chibi field map models, evoking a strong sense of nostalgia. One such scene is the moment where Cloud extends a helping hand to Jessie after she falls during the bombing mission.

Combat encounters in Ever Crisis follow the traditional random encounter format, reminiscent of the original Final Fantasy VII. The battle system retains the essence of the classic Active Time Battle (ATB) system, allowing characters to execute commands using their ATB gauge. Players can strategically choose from a variety of commands, such as spells like Fire and Thunder, to effectively consume their ATB bars.

Staying true to its roots, Ever Crisis features a three-character party system just like the original FFVII. Players can control one main character while the other two members fight automatically. The AI party members can be adjusted to adopt defensive or offensive tactics, providing a balance between relaxed gameplay and strategic decision-making.

Unleashing Limit Break-like moves adds an exciting dimension to battles. These powerful attacks can be triggered by fulfilling specific conditions, such as landing consecutive attacks. By chaining together special attacks with another character's move, players can execute even more formidable "chain" attacks.

The game features the Scorpion Sentinel at the conclusion of the first chapter. It presents various attack patterns, including a multi-target laser cleave and a single-target burst attack. Players can overcome these challenges by employing defensive AI strategies or exploiting the boss's weaknesses to interrupt its attacks. Destroying the emblem that appears before the boss finishes preparing its special attack grants players a significant advantage, neutralizing the impending threat.

Completing the bombing mission chapter from the original Final Fantasy VII scenario is just the beginning and unlocks the Crisis Core and First SOLDIER scenarios.

Famitsu has praised Ever Crisis for its captivating battle visuals and predicts it to be an excellent entry point for newcomers to the Final Fantasy series, with its immersive gameplay and deep storyline.

In conclusion, Ever Crisis brings together the charm of chibi-style characters and the realism of detailed models, providing a delightful visual experience. The game stays true to its roots while offering enhanced visuals and interactive features. With its faithful storyline, engaging combat system, and the promise of future scenarios, Ever Crisis is shaping up to be a must-play game for Final Fantasy VII fans and newcomers alike.
