Tokyo Game Show 2023 kicked off with the release of the highly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo by Square Enix. Critics describe the experience as a blend of familiarity and innovation, offering an expanded gameplay experience while retaining the essence of the original story.
In an interview with the game's leading creatives, producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi shared key insights.
Kitase hinted at a major plot development at the iconic Forgotten Capital, promising an engaging conclusion to the series. "What happens there is going to be a big surprising development," he said, "and a hook to get people interested and motivated to want to see what happens in the final part of the series".
Hamaguchi revealed that players can expect a substantial playtime, estimating 40 to 50 hours for the main story alone, with over 100 hours for thorough exploration. "I'd say just doing the main story alone, you're looking at 40 to 50 hours to complete without doing anything else," he said.
The open-world feature, a significant addition to Rebirth, allows players to gradually unlock new areas and abilities as the narrative progresses. The developers aim to create a seamless experience, interconnecting towns, dungeons, and landscapes.
For now, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth remains exclusive to PlayStation 5, optimized for the hardware. While there's speculation about potential releases on other platforms after May 29, 2024, it is yet to be confirmed.
