In a recent update amid reports of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's "below-average" sales performance, the German branch of the industry association Game has delivered uplifting news for Square Enix. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been honored with a Gold Award for surpassing 100,000 sales in Germany.
The Game Sales Awards, presented monthly by the industry association, recognize games that reach specific sales milestones. A Gold Award is given for 100,000 sales, and a Platinum Award for 200,000. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's achievement aligns with its predecessor; however, it's worth noting that while Final Fantasy VII Remake reached the Gold Award within days of its release, it never reached the Platinum Award. Another interesting comparison would be Final Fantasy XVI, which achieved the Gold Award in a timeframe similar to Rebirth.
The sales data considered for these awards is cumulative for the first year in Germany and is collected by the Game Sales Data panel of Video Games Europe. This data includes physical, but also digital sales reported by publishers.
