Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Developers Open Up About Tough Development Journey


Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has gained widespread praise, making it one of the top-rated games in the series. However, the development process wasn't a walk in the park. In a Square Enix Blog Post, Lead developers have shared insights into the challenges they encountered and the commitment they invested in crafting the sequel.


The creation of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was labeled as "tough" by the team. The workload was hefty, but the developers pushed through without cutting corners. The UI team, in particular, aimed for perfection, meticulously crafting each UI element to a level where they could almost be standalone games.

"The development of this title was really tough, but even during development, the staff were unanimous that the experience is worth the effort that we put in."

One of the major challenges the team faced was the sheer amount of content that needed to be created. The combat system alone required an extensive range of character abilities, summons, and intricate mechanics. Additionally, the team made sure that every new location introduced a rich variety of enemy types to keep the gameplay fresh. Crafting distinctive boss battles was also a priority, with each encounter offering a unique experience.

"We doubted if we could put everything together in time due to the massive amount of content, but the development team put their all into making something great."

Despite the challenges, the developers remained dedicated, and their hard work paid off. The team felt that the experience was worth the effort, and at times, they even forgot their assigned tasks while getting lost in enjoying the game.
