Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Unveils an Expansive World Map

In a recent interview with key developers, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's production team sheds light on the revival of an essential element in the RPG genre – the explorable world map.

Yoshinori Kitase, the producer, reminisces about the departure from this feature in Final Fantasy X, lamenting its absence. He emphasizes the team's commitment to reinstating the joy of navigating a vast world in the upcoming release.

Naoki Hamaguchi, the director, echoes this sentiment, revealing the desire to break away from the linear structures of recent Final Fantasy titles. Tetsuya Nomura, the creative director, expresses a longstanding feeling of emptiness since the disappearance of the world map, considering it integral to the RPG experience.

In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Square Enix aims to surpass its previous exploratory endeavors. The game's demo offers a glimpse into an expansive world map, seamlessly connecting regions and encouraging detailed exploration. The studio anticipates players engaging with diverse content, from story missions to minigames, fostering a sense of individualized adventure.

Hamaguchi outlines the game design philosophy, emphasizing a balance between the main storyline and player-initiated exploration. The goal is to allow players to embark on unique journeys based on their interests, fostering a deeper connection with the game world.

As Final Fantasy VII Rebirth prepares for release, it promises not just a continuation of the beloved franchise but a return to the roots of exploration that defined earlier titles.
