Red XIII, who was previously an unplayable character in the Remake, now takes center stage in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Players not only get to control him but also witness his ability to ride Chocobos, a detail that has garnered attention from enthusiasts.

The game mirrors its predecessor in a crucial narrative moment involving Red XIII. After visiting Cosmo Canyon, the character experiences a significant personality shift. To reflect this, Rebirth offers quests in two variants: one for Red XIII's original self and another for his transformed identity as Nanaki.
Hamaguchi elaborated, stating, "A fun little tidbit that I wanted to share about that is in the original, you may remember that Red XIII, if you go to Cosmo Canyon, once you go there, his personality changes a bit. And considering that his personality changes, we have it designed so that all quests in the game kind of has a Red XIII and a Nanaki version. So for people, it has all options available for that."
