Final Fantasy x Magic: The Gathering Set to Launch June 2025

The upcoming Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond crossover with Final Fantasy will bring the characters, settings, and monsters from Square Enix's series to the card game on June 13, 2025. Announced initially in 2023, the set was detailed further at MagicCon: Las Vegas, where Square Enix and Wizards of the Coast presented a video preview:

Designed to be Standard-legal, a first for the Universes Beyond series, this crossover will feature key characters from each of the sixteen mainline titles, including Lightning, Tidus, Yuna, Kefka, Sephiroth, and Emet-Selch. Square Enix producer Shoichi Ichikawa confirmed that players can expect to see all popular protagonists such as Cloud, Terra, and Noctis, as well as iconic creatures like Chocobos. In addition to characters, the cards will depict summons, monsters, and legendary weapons, pulling from the entire history of the Final Fantasy franchise.

"The beloved "FINAL FANTASY" RPG series' sixteen mainline games of unforgettable characters, items, and moments are now here in Magic: The Gathering! Cast powerful spells, call upon classic summons, and even visit your favorite locations on the back of a chocobo. Countless elements from the games are here for you to weave together your own story!"

The set will showcase an extensive array of artwork, blending new collaborations with legacy images. Zakeel Gordon, Wizards of the Coast’s Product Architect, described this as “the largest collection of Final Fantasy artwork ever in a single game,” with contributions from Magic and Final Fantasy artists, including Joseph Weston, Wangjie Li, and Yuu Fujiki. Artist Arif Wijaya’s artwork of Kefka from Final Fantasy VI and other character illustrations will represent Final Fantasy in a new artistic light.

The set will include boosters, bundles, and possibly Commander decks, marking a significant addition to MTG’s product lineup. As Gordon stated, “This collaboration is more than just cards. It’s about celebrating decades of iconic characters, legendary stories, and unforgettable moments from one of the most beloved franchises in gaming history.”
