Final Fantasy XIV Players have expressed concerns over the recently released Dawntrail benchmark. While many appreciated the graphical enhancements, there were significant criticisms regarding character appearances. Naoki Yoshida acknowledged these concerns in a recent blog post, attributing them to an outdated Character Creator.
Yoshida explained that the current character creation system, which has been in place since A Realm Reborn launched over a decade ago, is the main culprit behind the discrepancies. He admitted that while textures and shaders have been updated, the character creator itself features outdated lighting and environments, resulting in characters looking different from the actual game.
Specific issues highlighted by players include "lifeless" eyes, flat facial contours, and incorrect light reflection. Furthermore, there were technical problems with textures not rendering correctly and models clipping and tearing.
To address these issues, Yoshida proposed a series of solutions:
Replacement of Benchmark Software: A new and updated benchmark will be released before Dawntrail's launch on July 2, 2024.
Rework of Character Creation Environments: Updates to the lighting and environments in the character creation system to align with the actual game.
Addressing Specific Issues: Correcting problems like unimplemented high-resolution textures and data-related errors.
Yoshida concluded by thanking players for their feedback and patience, promising continuous updates and improvements leading up to Dawntrail's release.
