In an interview with Eurogamer, Naoki Yoshida has reassured players about the server stability for the upcoming expansion, Dawntrail. Despite previous problems, Yoshida is confident that players will have a smoother gaming experience this time.
Yoshida acknowledged the inconvenience caused to players during the launch of the previous expansion, Endwalker, due to server congestion. However, he emphasized the extensive preparations made since then, including the ability to swiftly open new servers if needed. This, he believes, significantly reduces the chances of encountering similar problems.
"It was a source of great inconvenience for our players last time. Since we are looking towards the future of Final Fantasy XIV and its expansion as well, we have been excessive with planning and preparing servers. Now if we feel it is necessary, we can open up the new servers with a press of a button. So I think there's almost no chance that we would face a situation where we cannot accommodate the number of players required."
Furthermore, players will now have the option to switch to different data servers during non-peak hours, offering a potential solution to overcrowding during peak times.
The interview also touched upon the recent DDoS attack, which Yoshida described as simple yet difficult to defend against. Despite the challenges, Square Enix is actively working on enhancing defensive measures to protect the game's infrastructure.
"There is not a zero chance of an attack happening, but we would basically work on preparing more defence patterns, so that we aren't impacted by that kind of situation.
Adding to the preparations, Square Enix has expanded its infrastructure by introducing new data centers and worlds, showing its commitment to providing a smooth gaming experience for players.
