Final Fantasy XIV players who enjoy tweaking their character's appearance are in luck with the upcoming Dawntrail expansion. During the recent Letter from the Producer Live LXXXI, Naoki Yoshida revealed an update to the Fantasia system, giving players more freedom and customization opportunities.
A new quest in Ul'dah will teach players how Fantasia works and reward them with a free Phial of Fantasia upon completion. This Phial lets them change their character's appearance. The goal is for players to experiment with character creation in the new Dawntrail expansion.
The most interesting change is the 60-minute window players get after using a Phial of Fantasia. During this time, they can make further adjustments, from small tweaks to trying out different races. Unlike before, choices in the character creator aren't final, allowing for more experimentation and customization.
It's important to note that the 60-minute window is based on in-game time, so logging out pauses the timer. This gives players the freedom to take their time and get used to their new look before making final decisions.
This update directly addresses player feedback. Many players wanted to see their characters in action to fully appreciate changes made with Fantasia. Lighting, weather, and other in-game effects can significantly impact a character's appearance, making it hard to judge customization choices in the character creation menu alone.
