Square Enix has officially announced that the Final Fantasy XIV European Data Center, known as "Shadow," will be shutting down on August 27, 2024. The Shadow Data Center was initially launched to manage congestion during the release of the Dawntrail expansion. The Data Center comprises four worlds: Innocence, Pixie, Titania, and Tycoon, all of which were classified as probationary worlds.
These probationary worlds were created to handle the overflow of players during the expansion's launch. These worlds could only be accessed via Data Center Travel, with restrictions preventing the creation of new characters or the purchase of housing.
As the purpose of the Shadow Data Center has been fulfilled, Square Enix will close it down. Players are advised to return to their Home Worlds before August 27. Starting on August 16, 2024, Data Center Travel to these worlds will no longer be available. Any players who remain in the Shadow Data Center during the maintenance period will be automatically transferred to their Home Worlds.
The Shadow Data Center was launched in response to the issues experienced during the Endwalker expansion.
