Final Fantasy XIV x Gong cha Collaboration Offers Exclusive Mounts, Faces Scalping Issues

The collaboration between Final Fantasy XIV and the international tea company Gong cha gives players a chance to earn in-game rewards. From now until August 28, 2024, players can visit participating Gong cha stores and buy three teas in one transaction to receive a code for the Porxie King mount. This special mount is similar to the Portly Porxie from FFXIV: Shadowbringers but features a distinctive pink crown. Participants must redeem their codes by September 4, 2024, to unlock the mount. However, this promotion is only available in select countries.

During this event, Gong cha is also offering three Final Fantasy XIV-inspired drinks: the Fat Cat Brown Sugar Milk Tea, the Fat Chocobo Mango Frozen Tea, and the Cactuar Matcha Milk Tea. Each drink comes in a special cup with themed decals, and some stores also offer commemorative keychains through raffles or other promotions.

Despite the excitement, the collaboration has led to significant issues with code availability and scalping. The codes are printed on limited business cards, causing them to run out quickly. With prices ranging from $80 to $150, many fans are frustrated by the scarcity and high resale prices.

Some players received multiple codes without buying multiple drinks, worsening the shortage. This has led to complaints about long wait times and limited stock, especially in busy locations. For example, one location had only 27 codes available, resulting in a wait time of over an hour for just three drinks.

The collaboration also launched midweek, making it difficult for many fans to participate immediately. As the codes are in high demand, players must act quickly to secure their Porxie King mount.
