Final Fantasy XV's director, Hajime Tabata, spoke in a recent interview with 4gamer.net about the regrets he holds regarding the cancellation of planned DLC for the game. Tabata, who left Square Enix to establish JP GAMES, shared insights into the challenges faced and the motivation behind his decisions.
Tabata highlighted the success of Final Fantasy XV, particularly its evolution within the series and the achievement of a simultaneous global release. However, he expressed deep disappointment over the unavoidable cancellation of DLC, including the incomplete "Dawn of the Future" storyline.
In the interview, Tabata acknowledged the frustration among players who missed out on the planned content. He emphasized that the decision to cancel the DLC was beyond his control but served as motivation to create better games in a freer position with JP GAMES.
Quoting Tabata:
"My only regret, however, is the DLC that was canceled. We had a lot of additional content planned for FFXV, but in the end, some of it had to be canceled. At the time, it was really unavoidable, but it still haunts me to this day. We were not able to keep our promise and not be able to provide all of the content we had planned for the players who were looking forward to it."
Tabata's departure from Square Enix and the formation of JP GAMES were driven by a desire for creative freedom. He gathered core members from the Final Fantasy XV development team to embark on a new RPG venture, aiming to explore innovative approaches.
Despite the challenges faced, Tabata remains committed to delivering exciting and fulfilling gaming experiences, motivated by the lessons learned from Final Fantasy XV's development.
