In a recent interview as part of Square Enix’s “The Games That Made Us” series, Ben Starr, the English voice actor of Clive Rosfield in Final Fantasy XVI, shared insights into the games that have had a profound impact on him.
Starr reminisced about Final Fantasy VIII, the first Square Enix game he ever played, noting its nostalgic value and how it changed his perspective on video games. An intriguing connection revealed was Starr's first summon battle in Final Fantasy VIII against Ifrit, the same summon he now embodies in Final Fantasy XVI. Despite eight mainline games between them, the link remains. Additionally, Final Fantasy IX holds a special place for Starr, even as he currently explores the captivating world of Octopath Traveler II.
Delving into his gaming history, Starr also shared a fond memory of battling Yiazmat in Final Fantasy XII, a challenging multi-hour boss battle that required strategic prowess. His commitment to the game was evident, investing around 140 hours across four weeks.
