Hironobu Sakaguchi is returning to Square Enix after more than 20 years with the upcoming release of FANTASIAN Neo Dimension. Developed by Sakaguchi's Mistwalker in collaboration with Square Enix's Creative Studio 3, the game is set to launch in winter 2024 on platforms including the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and PC.
Reflecting on his return, Sakaguchi shared, "It felt like going back to your family home in the countryside, that old house your parents always had." While he has a deep connection with Square Enix, he also acknowledged Nintendo's role in his career: "Square Enix is like my hometown, but I also consider Nintendo a hometown of mine."
The collaboration with Naoki Yoshida, head of Creative Studio 3 and director of Final Fantasy XIV, began at the 2021 Tokyo Game Show. Their meeting laid the groundwork for FANTASIAN Neo Dimension and a continuing partnership.
Additionally, in the Famitsu interview, Yoshida also confirmed that Creative Studio 3 is working on a "small-scale" unannounced project but couldn't share more details yet. Fans of Final Fantasy can look forward to what may come in the near future.
