In a recent Famitsu interview, Lost Soul Aside creator and director Yang Bing discussed the game’s inspirations, particularly the influence of Final Fantasy XV.
"Final Fantasy has always been a favorite of mine. I find the way it blends reality and fantasy incredibly appealing. There is a sense of romance brought by fantasy, but also a sense of reassurance. I am very attracted to that perfect balance, and I aim to incorporate this fusion in Lost Soul Aside."
Yang mentioned that Lost Soul Aside's main character design was influenced by Final Fantasy XV, particularly its blend of realistic textures and stylized features.
"The protagonist's face and hairstyle are more manga-inspired, but the textures of skin, hair, and clothing are very realistic. It's a combination that I find very interesting."
To further ensure authenticity, the team went to the lengths of creating real-life versions of the protagonist's clothing before implementing them into the game.
"We designed the outfits with the same concept as Final Fantasy, blending realistic and fantasy elements. After the designs were completed, we even made real-life versions of the clothing to make sure they felt authentic in the game."
Yang also expressed his admiration for Final Fantasy’s polished presentation and immersive experience, and he wants Lost Soul Aside to deliver a similarly refined atmosphere.
"Final Fantasy is known for offering a clean and comfortable experience. We want Lost Soul Aside to feel similarly refined and immersive, with the characters and each scene providing that same level of clarity."
The game will be released on May 30 for PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), with pre-orders available now.
