Square Enix is making notable progress in expanding its platform availability, starting with the successful release of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox. The game has received a positive response, with new communities forming on the Xbox platform. In an interview with Eurogamer, Naoki Yoshida credited Xbox head Phil Spencer for playing a key role in making the release possible.
Historically, Japanese developers like Square Enix have been reluctant to release games on Xbox due to the smaller user base in Japan.
"When it comes to the Xbox platform and the fact that it was difficult for Japanese titles to be released on the platform, that's tied into the fact that in the Japanese market there is an extremely low number of users on Xbox."
However, Yoshida highlighted a shift in strategy, stating that the company is now committed to releasing its titles on multiple platforms, including Xbox. This marks a significant change from their previous approach.
"However, at Square Enix, we have been changing our policy. So now we are moving towards the policy of releasing our games on a multiplatform basis, and we really want as many players as possible to play our titles. So with Final Fantasy XIV as the starting point, we do want to release more Square Enix games on Xbox, and there will be more of our titles released on Xbox."
While Yoshida didn’t specify which games, he confirmed that more Square Enix titles will be coming to Xbox, signaling the company's dedication to reaching a broader audience.
As Square Enix continues to adapt to the evolving gaming landscape, fans can expect to see more of their favorite titles available on multiple platforms, ensuring that more players have access to the company's rich library of games.
