Naoki Yoshida’s Advice Helped Shape a Feature in Monster Hunter Wilds

While working on the Final Fantasy XIV and Monster Hunter: World crossover, Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida provided feedback that led to a feature in Monster Hunter Wilds’ HUD.

During a reveal event, Yoshida advised Monster Hunter Wilds director Yuya Tokuda that players like to see the names of their attacks displayed on screen as they perform them. This suggestion was later implemented into Monster Hunter Wilds as part of its HUD improvements.

The concept had been previously used in Monster Hunter: World’s Final Fantasy XIV collaboration, which introduced Behemoth as a boss fight. In that event, Behemoth’s attacks appeared on-screen as text, mimicking MMORPG mechanics. The crossover also featured additional Final Fantasy XIV elements, like the Jump emote inspired by the Dragoon job, which also displayed text when used.

The feature now integrated into Monster Hunter Wilds expands on these mechanics, offering players more visual feedback during combat.
