New Final Fantasy XIV Mobile Title 'Crystal World' Approved for Release in China

The National Press and Publication Administration of China has approved Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World, a mobile version of the popular MMORPG. Developed by Square Enix and Tencent’s Lightspeed Studios, the game will be distributed in China through Tencent's subsidiary, Beijing Borun Zhijia Technology. This approval comes as part of China’s bimonthly review of game imports and suggests that the game is nearing completion.

Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad confirmed the development of Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World and noted that it aligns with earlier reports of a joint project between Square Enix and Tencent.

Square Enix and Tencent, which formed a strategic alliance in August 2018, have been working on various projects together. Although there has been no official announcement from the companies, the game’s approval indicates it could be released in the next three to six months.

Industry rumors suggest that Final Fantasy XIV: Crystal World will be a standalone MMORPG, distinct from the original Final Fantasy XIV. These rumors, supported by Square Enix's recent trademark filings and earlier leaks, reinforce the game's anticipated launch.
