NHK World Japan will launch a new documentary series titled Legendary Games Chronicle, focusing on the origins of iconic Japanese game series. The first episode, airing on October 11–12, will cover the Final Fantasy series, featuring key figures involved in its creation.
The documentary will include Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy, along with Koichi Ishii, Yoshitaka Amano, Nobuo Uematsu, and Kazuko Shibuya, all of whom played vital roles in the development of the original game. These industry veterans will discuss the challenges they faced during the production of Final Fantasy, offering insight into the hardships and ultimate success of the series.
The program will present previously unreleased materials and explore the creators’ dedication and passion for the project. It promises to shed light on how the game, initially developed under financial constraints, eventually became one of the most iconic titles in video game history.
The documentary will be available in English through cable TV, the internet, and the NHK World Japan app. A Japanese version is scheduled to air in December 2024.
