In a recent Famitsu interview, Naoki Yoshida, revealed crucial details about the game's development and the upcoming DLC. The team responsible for DLC is disbanding after the second installment, signaling a conclusion to FFXVI's core content. Despite this, no sequels or spin-offs are currently in the pipeline.
The first two DLCs, "Echoes of the Fallen" and "The Rising Tide", were intentionally left open-ended during FFXVI's mid-development, offering players a glimpse into potential future expansions. Yoshida expressed interest in exploring new challenges rather than pursuing a continuous narrative for FFXVI.
Concerning collaborations with Final Fantasy XIV, Yoshida acknowledged the potential but cited internal development overlaps and possible player alienation. He hinted at a preference for unique in-game additions, such as controlling FFXIV characters in FFXVI, rather than a collaborative venture.
In a message to FFXVI enthusiasts, Yoshida assured that the upcoming DLC promises a rich gaming experience, incorporating various elements. He encouraged both current players and those considering starting FFXVI to look forward to a seamless integration of DLC content.
Despite the challenges faced by the development team, Okawa expressed gratitude and urged players to anticipate and enjoy the upcoming DLC.
