Nobuo Uematsu Unlikely to Score Full Video Games Again

Nobuo Uematsu, known to all fans for his work on the Final Fantasy series, recently revealed in an interview that he probably won't score a complete video game soundtrack in the future. While he will continue to contribute main themes to the Final Fantasy games, his days of composing music for an entire game are likely over. Uematsu's last complete soundtrack was for the mobile-exclusive RPG Fantasian.

In the interview with Zeit Online, Uematsu explained that scoring a full game requires immense physical and mental strength, which he feels he no longer possesses. Instead, he expressed his desire to focus on other projects that he loves. These include his upcoming narrative orchestral performance called Merregnon: Heart of Ice and his band Uematsu Nobuo conTIKI.

Nobuo Uematsu is widely recognized for his iconic compositions in the Final Fantasy series. He created memorable songs such as the Main Theme, One-Winged Angel, or To Zanarkand. His last time scoring an entire Final Fantasy game was for Final Fantasy IX. However, he reunited with Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi for the Apple Arcade game Fantasian, which may be his final full score.

While Uematsu's decision marks a shift away from video game scoring, it doesn't indicate his retirement from music altogether. Fans can still look forward to his contributions to the Final Fantasy series through main themes and his involvement in other projects.
