Naoki Yoshida shared his reflections on 15 years with Final Fantasy XIV in a New Year’s message to fans. Having taken charge of the project on December 10, 2010, Yoshida highlighted that half of his game development career has been devoted to Final Fantasy XIV.
"I was announced as head of the old FFXIV on December 10, 2010; so for me, this marks my fifteenth year on the project."
The game's latest expansion, Dawntrail, launched last year, setting the stage for continued story developments in 2025. Patch 7.1 introduced new challenges for the Warrior of Light, with Patches 7.2 and 7.3 set to expand the narrative further.
"Patch 7.1 gave us a sense of the trouble brewing for the Warrior of Light, so I hope you'll join us this year for Patches 7.2 and 7.3, where you'll experience some exciting twists and catch a glimpse of adventures yet to come."
Development on Patch 7.2 is already underway, with Yoshida scheduled to review its implementation in February. Fans can look forward to significant updates as part of a packed schedule for the year ahead.
"The Development team is deep into work on Patch 7.2, and in February I'll start my own checks on implementation. Our jam-packed schedule is set to bring you a jam-packed patch, so look forward to loads of new content."
Yoshida also reflected on the impact of a special note he received, suggesting it could shape the future storyline of the game.
Looking beyond this content, preparations for a new Fan Festival have begun, following the conclusion of the Korea Fan Festival. Yoshida hinted at more significant developments for Final Fantasy XIV as the year progresses.
"Kicking off with the release of Patch 7.2, we hope to bring you a year full of fun and surprises, both in game and out"
