Rumor: Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy Tactics Remakes Still in "Active Development"

A leak suggests that Square Enix is still actively developing remakes for Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy Tactics, though neither has been officially announced.

The claim comes from NateTheHate, who stated on X that both games remain in active development but are unlikely to release in 2025. He suggested that Final Fantasy IX Remake might launch in 2026.

Rumors of a Final Fantasy IX Remake have circulated for years, with one of the most notable instances being its inclusion in the 2021 GeForce Now database leak, which included multiple Square Enix titles. Several games from that leak have since been announced or released.

Despite the growing speculation, Square Enix has not confirmed the project. When Final Fantasy XIV introduced Final Fantasy IX crossover content last year, some fans speculated that it was a teaser for a remake. However, Naoki Yoshida dismissed the idea, stating that there was no connection between the collaboration and any potential remake.

Alongside Final Fantasy IX, a remake of Final Fantasy Tactics was also included in the GeForce Now database leak. Square Enix has not made any public statements regarding either project. With the company still focused on completing the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, it remains unclear if and when more information about these rumored remakes will emerge.
