Square Enix and Tencent are reportedly working on a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV. Known leaker Kurakasis says the project is currently in progress, with Tencent managing the porting process. This collaboration comes after the two companies formed a strategic alliance in 2018.
"Final Fantasy XIV Mobile is currently in development. As per the site's sources, bringing the popular MMORPG to mobile devices is a joint project of Square Enix and Tencent."
The initial project between the two companies was an unannounced mobile version of NieR, which was eventually put on hold. Now, the focus has shifted to bringing Final Fantasy XIV to mobile devices.
Square Enix continues to achieve significant milestones with Final Fantasy XIV, a major revenue generator for the company. Moving to mobile is expected to expand the game's audience considerably. However, it's uncertain whether the mobile version will be a completely new creation or an adaptation of the existing PC and console versions.
Despite the potential, there is still uncertainty about the project's completion, as previous collaborations have seen projects abandoned. Nonetheless, if successful, the mobile adaptation could lead to a significant boost in the game's player base.
