Square Enix has announced a Final Fantasy IV collaboration event in the mobile game Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. The event, running in the Japanese version of the game from June 20 to July 18, 2024, introduces Cecil from Final Fantasy IV as a free playable character. Cecil will be featured in his Paladin form and players can also obtain Cecil's awakening stones for free through the event story.
In addition to Cecil, other characters in the game will receive new attire and abilities inspired by Final Fantasy IV. Sazantos will be dressed as a Dragoon, reflecting Kain's style; Ophilia will take on the Summoner role, inspired by Rydia; and Agnea will become a White Mage, echoing Rosa's abilities.
The event story will be released in three chapters, with the first two parts available on June 20, and the final chapter on July 4. To engage the community, Square Enix has set a challenge: if the combined number of retweets and likes on a specific Tweet reaches 4444, all players will receive in-game rewards.
Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, available on iOS and Android, is a free-to-play game set several years before the first Octopath Traveler game. It features a rich narrative with multiple characters, an HD-2D art style, and a familiar combat system. Players explore the land of Orsterra, making choices that shape their unique experiences and storylines.
