Square Enix has announced measures to manage server congestion for the upcoming FFXIV Dawntrail expansion, which enters early access on June 28, 2024, and releases fully on July 5, 2024.
To mitigate congestion, several limitations will be implemented starting with Patch 7.0. Login queues will prioritize full version accounts over free trial players. Data Center travel will be restricted, with North American and European servers cutting off some Data Centers from travel. In Japan, the number of non-home world characters able to log in will be limited. The Oceania Data Center is recommended for those looking to avoid peak congestion periods.
Creating new characters on highly congested World servers will be restricted. Square Enix also advises planning around high congestion times, which are specified for each Data Center:
Japanese Data Center: From 9:00 (GMT) / 10:00 (BST) / 19:00 (AEST) to 15:00 (GMT) / 16:00 (BST) / 1:00 (AEST)
North American Data Center: From 20:00 (GMT) / 21:00 (BST) / 6:00 (AEST) to 6:00 (GMT) / 7:00 (BST) / 16:00 (AEST)
European Data Center: From 11:00 (GMT) / 12:00 (BST) / 21:00 (AEST) to 23:00 (GMT) / 0:00 (BST) / 9:00 (AEST)
Oceanian Data Center: From 7:00 (GMT) / 8:00 (BST) / 17:00 (AEST) to 13:00 (GMT) / 14:00 (BST) / 23:00 (AEST)
"Considering early access will be taking place during the weekend, there may be congestion outside of these hours as well. The above times are simply meant to be a reference for when login queues may be especially long."
Additionally, an automatic logout will occur after 30 minutes of inactivity to free up space for active players.
Error 2002 may appear due to high traffic, though capacity has been increased by 50% since the Endwalker release. Network errors like Error 90002 and 90006 can be avoided by using wired connections.
These measures are aimed at ensuring a smoother experience for players as they explore the new content in Dawntrail, avoiding issues faced during previous expansions.
