Square Enix is changing its strategy to make future game releases more accessible across all major gaming platforms. In a recent interview with 4Gamer, Naoki Yoshida reiterated this commitment to simultaneous multiplatform releases, stating, "Square Enix titles will be released simultaneously on each platform more and more.” This shift marks a move away from the company's previous focus on exclusivity.
The upcoming Fantasian Neo Dimension exemplifies this new approach, with planned releases on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and other platforms. Yoshida expressed excitement for Xbox players to engage with the game, adding, “This time, we will also release the Xbox Series X|S version at the same time.”
This change in strategy reflects a significant departure from Square Enix’s earlier reliance on PlayStation exclusivity for major titles like Final Fantasy XVI. By emphasizing simultaneous multiplatform releases, the company aims to improve accessibility and boost sales in response to current market challenges.
Additionally, Yoshida discussed the possibility of re-releasing some classic Square Enix titles, including fan favorites like Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story. He recognized the demand for these games and noted the potential for bringing them back in updated versions.
Yoshida also mentioned that he has had preliminary talks with Hironobu Sakaguchi about the possibility of a new Parasite Eve installment, although this remains an early concept rather than a confirmed project. “We’ve had discussions with Hironobu Sakaguchi about the possibility of developing a new Parasite Eve title. It's something we’re interested in exploring further," he said, indicating a renewed interest in revisiting popular IPs from the company’s past.
