Square Enix Unveils Final Fantasy Highlights for Tokyo Game Show 2024


Square Enix has detailed its lineup for the Tokyo Game Show 2024, scheduled from September 26 to 29 at Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan. The event will showcase major titles from the Final Fantasy series, with a focus on Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XVI.



Final Fantasy XIV will feature its "Letter from the Producer LIVE Part LXXXIII" on September 29. The session will be broadcast live on YouTube from 5:50 (GMT) / 6:50 (BST) / 15:50 (AEST) to 7:20 (GMT) / 8:20 (BST) / 17:20 (AEST). Naoki Yoshida, producer and director of the game, along with Toshio Murouchi, global community producer, will provide updates on Patch 7.1. Attendees can also visit the Square Enix booth for FFXIV-themed activities and photo opportunities.



Final Fantasy XVI will highlight a special Voice Actor Talk Show on September 29 at 11:30 JST. The show will be streamed on YouTube (Japanese) and will feature voice actors Yuuya Uchida (Clive Rosfield), Takeo Otsuka (Joshua Rosfield), and Megumi Han (Jill Warrick). Naoki Yoshida and Kazutoyo Maehiro, the game’s creative director and original story script writer, will also participate.



In addition to the live event, the Square Enix booth in Hall 11, stand E02, will showcase a diverse range of merchandise, including both popular older items and new releases. Final Fantasy XIV fans can look forward to exclusive items such as the new Pictomance T-shirt, keychains, frame magnets, and a Dawntrail fan.



The booth will also feature an extensive selection of music merchandise, including soundtracks available in Blu-ray, CD, and vinyl formats. Notable signed soundtracks include:

  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Orchestral Arrangement Album - signed by Mitsuto Suzuki and Masashi Hamauzu

  • And Back Again: Live Performances from the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2024 - signed by Masayoshi Soken

  • Modulation - Final Fantasy Arrangement Album - signed by Nobuo Uematsu



Purchases over 6,000 yen at the Square Enix Shop will come with a Square Enix Music Collection Card and a Square Bag. For a full list of available merchandise, fans are encouraged to visit the official Square Enix website.

  • 21:00 – Eiko Kano’s Critikano Hit Tokyo Game Show 2024 Special – Eiko Kano will host the special Tokyo Game Show 2024 episode of “Eiko Kano’s Critikano Hit” on Friday, September 27 at 21:00 JST, playing the long-awaited Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake! Joining Eiko Kano will be series’ regulars Kenta Sakai (Alco and Peace) and Masayuki Kibe (television writer), with a special guest appearance by the creator of the Dragon Quest series himself: Yuji Horii! Watch them attempt the game’s pyramid dungeon, unveiled for the first time ever. Don’t miss it! Featuring Eiko Kano, Kenta Sakai (Alco and Peace), Masayuki Kibe (television writer), and Yuji Horii.

  • 21:50 – Tokyo Game Show Special: No Leaving Until All NieR Orchestral Boxes Are Signed – Three men rise up to take responsibility for the huge inventory of NieR Orchestral Arrangement Special Box Editions that need signing… In this Tokyo Game Show 2024 special program, the three men are locked inside the company and forced to sign autographs while discussing highlights and behind-the-scenes stories of the production, as well as some casual conversation. Will they be able to finish signing all of the autographs before the program ends…? (This is a pre-recorded video premiere.) Featuring Yoko Taro (creative director, NieR series), Yosuke Saito (producer, NieR series), Keiichi Okabe (composer, NieR series), and others.


September 28

  • 11:00 – Eiko Kano’s Critikano Hit: Minna de NICE! Special 2024

  • 13:00 – FANTASIAN Neo Dimension: Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu Special Talk Show! (YouTube [Japanese]) – Producer Hironobu Sakaguchi and composer Nobuo Uematsu appear on stage for FANTASIAN Neo Dimension, which is due out this winter. Look forward to a wealth of valuable discussion about the game’s charm, unique features, behind-the-scenes development stories, and more. Featuring Hironobu Sakaguchi (guest), Nobuo Uematsu (guest), and Naoki Yoshida (host).

  • 15:00 – Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven Tokyo Game Show 2024 Special Stage Event (YouTube [Japanese]) – An introduction to the charms of Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, which is due out on October 24, with special guests. This stage event is packed with content, including the latest information on the game and the first live gameplay. Additionally, during the latter half, SaGa series composer Kenji Ito will perform a live mini concert.

  • 17:00 – Life is Strange: Double Exposure Tokyo Game Show 2024 Special Broadcast Japanese Gameplay Reveal – Two timelines. One impossible mystery. This is a special Tokyo Game Show 2024 program for Life is Strange: Double Exposure, the all new Life is Strange entry scheduled for release on Wednesday, October 30, 2024! Stay tuned for the first-ever reveal of Japanese gameplay and exclusive info! Featuring Susumu Imadachi (comedian, elec.comic), Satoshi Akaishizawa (localization producer, Square Enix), and Ken Rose (localization director, Square Enix).


September 29

  • 10:00 – Final Fantasy Trading Card Game Tokyo Game Show 2024 Special – A Tokyo Game Show 2024 broadcast for the Final Fantasy-themed card game Final Fantasy Trading Card Game. The event will spotlight “original illustrations.” Host Kabukin and producer Tarou Kageyama will be joined by three illustrators who have provided wonderful illustrations to Final Fantasy Trading Card Game, as they deep-dive into the charms of original illustrations. Featuring Tatsuma Ito, Gen Kobayashi, Sara Shimokoube, host Kabukin (YouTuber), and Tarou Kageyama (producer, Final Fantasy Trading Card Game).

  • 11:30 – Commemorating the Final Fantasy XVI PC Edition! Voice Actor Talk Show! (YouTube [Japanese]) – The voice actors behind Final Fantasy XVI appear on stage in this special talk stage where they share behind-the-scenes voice-over stories and other anecdotes you can only hear here. Featuring Yuuya Uchida (Clive Rosfield voice actor), Takeo Otsuka (Joshua Rosfield voice actor), Megumi Han (Jill Warrick voice actor), Naoki Yoshida (producer, Final Fantasy XVI), Kazutoyo Maehiro (creative director and original story script writer, Final Fantasy XVI).

  • 16:30 – Tokyo Game Show 2024 Square Enix Asia Special Program – In the Tokyo Game Show 2024 Square Enix Asia Special Program, the producers of the upcoming titles Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake and Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven will introduce the details of these games along with the latest gameplay footage specifically for English users. Additionally, information about Square Enix’s latest titles exhibited at Tokyo Game Show 2024 will also be presented.
