Yoshinori Kitase Discusses Potential Final Fantasy VII Movie or Series

Yoshinori Kitase recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of a new Final Fantasy VII film or TV adaptation. Speaking in an interview with Danny Peña, Kitase emphasized that no official plans exist for such a project, but he personally would welcome the idea.

"We don’t have anything officially planned and so this is just strictly my personal sort of wish, but yeah, I’ve heard about various Hollywood directors and actors playing Final Fantasy VII, and many creators also respect the title"

He added that he would love to see something emerge from the creators interested in the property.

"And so yeah, personally I’d love to see something that comes out of these creators, in terms of like a cinematic or some kind of visual piece."

The idea of revisiting Final Fantasy VII in a different medium is not new. In addition to Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, the Final Fantasy VII universe was further explored through Last Order: Final Fantasy VII, which depicts events related to the game's backstory. These adaptations have left a lasting impact on the fanbase and continue to influence the ongoing Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. Kitase confirmed that references to Advent Children are woven into the remake games, with more planned for the upcoming final installment.

Despite Kitase’s enthusiasm, no discussions have been held about creating a new cinematic adaptation. For now, fans can only speculate on how such a project might take shape if given the green light in the future.
